For 15+ years I've been on the inside of how products get built. At GlobalLogic I led technology practices across three Slovak engineering centres — about 500 engineers between us, shipping for everyone from healthcare and telemedicine clients to global consumer brands. Most recently I was COO at a software house, responsible for everything that went out under our name.
I watched the same failure mode repeat for a decade. A team gets excited about an idea. The engineering is sound. The demos are great. The product ships. Then… nothing. No customers. Or worse: a trickle of users who pay nothing and churn fast.
It wasn't bad engineering. It was something that should have happened before engineering even started.
